This study examines how people use generative AI (GenAI) in everyday contexts, based on qualitative insights from 88 survey responses. Grounded in established frameworks such as the Technology Acceptance Model and a socio-technical perspective, it explores how individuals interact with AI tools and integrate them into their daily activities.
The findings reveal three key patterns of use:
- A journey of discovery as users experiment with AI
- The role of AI as a workplace partner
- An emerging ethical crossroads shaped by questions of trust and responsibility
Rather than reducing human knowledge, the study shows that GenAI can act as a cognitive amplifier, helping users shift their focus toward more complex and creative tasks.
Moreover, the research introduces a new methodological framework, the AI-Assisted Thematic Approach which is designed to support qualitative analysis by combining AI capabilities with human oversight. Together, these insights contribute to a deeper understanding of how AI is reshaping digital practices and skills.
As AI becomes a part of everyday working life, the nature of digital skills is shifting, moving away from basic tool use toward more sophisticated forms of human–AI collaboration. Making that transition work will take real investment in hands-on AI training, a stronger emphasis on critical thinking and ethical awareness, and ongoing opportunities to upskill across industries. The study contributes to that conversation by grounding policy and practice in how people are actually engaging with AI today, by offering a clearer basis for preparing individuals to work effectively alongside it.
