SUMMARY:Unwrapping the Digital Divide Episode 4: Art and digital (in)equity: How can art be leveraged for digital inclusion?
DESCRIPTION:On May 7\, 2024\, DigiCo is hosting the fourth webinar of their series ‘Unwrapping the Digital Divide’. Their fourth episode will focus on: ‘Art and digital (in)equity: How can art be leveraged for digital inclusion?‘ \nIn this 40-minute Lightning Talk\, DigiCo invites Dr Alicja Pawluczuk (HYSTERA) to discuss the roles of [participatory] art and experiential learning in digital equity community practice and research. Join the event to explore the intersection of art and digital equity. The event will run from 12:00 to 12:40pm CEST and is free to attend\, but registration is required. \nAbout the speaker\nWith over a decade of experience in using art for digital inclusion and literacy\, Dr Pawluczuk will share her work as a founder and educator at Digital Beez\, her community artistic practice at Hystera and Endo Violence Collective \, and as a researcher and curator of the IN+ ART Iterations at Leeds University’s IN+ Network. This presentation intends to explore if/how artistic approaches can \, challenge\, reshape\, and enrich our understanding of digital inclusivity. Grounded in the IN+ Principles\, Dr Pawluczuk will argue that art spaces should be focused on “not on getting digital equity “right” by conventional standards\, but rather on collectively delving into alternative ways of experiencing it” (IN+ART). By uncovering and engaging with the subtle and often overlooked aspects of digital [in]equity\, Dr Pawluczuk aims to showcase the power of art in creating a more inclusive digital landscape. \nAbout DigiCo\nThe Digital Collective is a non-profit organisation advocating for the digital inclusion of marginalised communities. DigiCo works to enable digital inclusion at three levels: \n\nDeveloping tech-enabling solutions for digital inclusion: designing solutions that bring people closer to the labour market through access to lifelong learning\, for example\nSupport Digital Literacy training: delivering services and support to local organisations actively working in digital inclusion for marginalised groups\nAwareness-raising campaigns and policy advocacy: produce campaigns focusing on the importance of basic digital skills for life and work\, ultimately advocating for a culture of inclusion and lifelong learning

SUMMARY:From Quantum Weirdness to Unhackable Links: A New Kind of Cybersecurity
DESCRIPTION:The time has come for us to hold our very first public talk\, which will contain insights that you absolutely don’t want to miss!  \nQuantum mechanics predicts some truly weird phenomena. Things can be in two places at the same time. Switches can be on and off simultaneously. Teleportation is a reality. During this talk\, we will take a walk through some basic quantum concepts and show how\, more than simply abstract mathematics\, they can help us build better computers and other technologies. \nWe will then discuss how quantum technologies simultaneously threaten our cybersecurity apparatus and allow us to build unhackable\, ultrasecure communication systems. \nThe public talk\, which will be given by Prof. André Xuereb\, Professor of Quantum Physics at the University of Malta and founder of Merqury Cybersecurity\, will take place in the Aula Prima at the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus on Wednesday\, 24th April\, 2024.

SUMMARY:Final Conference on the Challenges of the Circular Society in the Economy 4.0
DESCRIPTION:Education\, as the cornerstone on which future generations will build\, plays a key role in shaping thinking and skills for the circular economy. This segment will explore ground-breaking strategies and pedagogies that can anchor circular economy principles at all levels of education\, thus educating architects of a sustainable future. \nThe final conference “Challenges of a Circular Society in the Economy 4.0” is more than just an event; it is a meeting of visionaries\, practitioners and students\, united by the common goal of accelerating the transition to a circular economy. It is an opportunity to engage with leading experts\, exchange innovative ideas and build partnerships that will lead the transformation of our established production and consumer chains. \nThis event will take place on 24 April at 2 p.m. at the University of Economics and Management in Bratislava and will mark a decisive step on our common path towards achieving the sustainable growth paradigm. \nThe conference will address critical aspects of this transition\, focusing on two main themes at the heart of the circular economy transformation: \n\nInnovation in education.\nEnvironmental Economy and Management.\n\nThese topics have been carefully selected to reflect the multifaceted approach needed to stimulate and sustain change towards a circular economy. Your contribution to this important discussion would be greatly appreciated and we look forward to your participation. Please report your participation via the e-mail address projekt@vsemba.sk by 19. 4. 2024.
